[Premium-Rx] NDB Locations

Statistically, are the NDB's really usually located at airports ?    In California and in fact the western states, the NDB's don't seem to be located anywhere near airports although they often mark one of the approach legs to an airport.

In central California, I can hear many of the Canadian beacons throughout the night hours as well as most of the western ones within the USA that run higher power.
