Thanks to the whole crew, and especially to Francis, Michael, George, and
Craig for input as to the lubricant question. I think I've got the info I
need right now, thanks to your input. There are some side issues, pertinent
to the situation at hand, i.e., Isn't the Moly based lubricant
electrically conductive? Are many lubricants? The specific application for
the silicone grease is a Harris auto-coupler for antennas. The lithium and
moly greases, if indeed conductive, would tend to be contra-indicated for
the roller coil assembly -- creating the possibility of shorted turns. Thus
the interest in finding the specific items identified by Harris. I think
that's done, now, so we're good to go. With sincere appreciation I wish you
all GOOD LISTENING. Vic

For radio gear box bearings, a good cheap lubricant is Castrol "Molyslip"
which is based on molybdenum disulphide. You don't need much. Racal used to
recomend it for their boatanchors, and it works well in many applications,
and more importantly, you can usually buy it in small tubes at cycle shops.
I still have a litre can which will last me for a few more decades!

On a similar theme, Castrol's underwater grease (used for outboard
engines) is filthy clingy stuff but excellent for protecting antenna
connections (though I would not use it on coax because it may attack the PVC
sheath).
  73s to everyone
  Michael
