I would be interested in this information and I bet it would be good
material for the reference area. fc

Subject: [Premium-Rx] Synch Detector for High End Receivers - Lowe HF-150
I have been very impressed with the synch detector in the Drake R-8B.
Actually I should say that I have been generally impressed by the Drake
R-8B, the synch detector seems to be somewhat superior to the detection
system in the Racal 6790. It would be possible to use it just as Bob has
mentioned. If anyone has a schematic of the Drake system, I would like to
look at it. The manual that came with my R-8B did not have any schematics.
One problem with the Drake system will be that works at 50 kHz (I think).
Concerning the QST synch detector article, I believe that I have sent a copy
of the July, 1993 QST version to all that requested it. If I missed you,
please let me know. In the meantime Steve Stutman pointed out that this
article is on the ARRL website, though possibly in the "Members Only" area.
The version they have up on the site is only ½ megabyte, whereas the one I
scanned was at higher resolution and required about 8 megabytes. If anyone
wants a copy of the ½ megabyte version and is unable to get it from the ARRL
site, let me know and I will send a copy.
I helped a fellow in Canada get one of these running several years ago (lost
the correspondence and don't recall the fellow's name). At the time I did
not have a receiver with a 455 kHz IF, so didn't build one. I also talked
to the fellows at ARRL concerning the one built by Jukka and the one they
built and described in the article. Both of the builders were quite
impressed with the unit. I have acquired the parts, but have not had the
time/energy to build one.
I also had copies of a couple of other product detectors, but these were
mostly for historical reference, one used over a dozen vacuum tubes. If
anyone is interested I will try and find the hard copies and scan them.
Thanks,
Barry
