[Premium-Rx] Info needed on Sylvania R-1414/URR receiver

I have one but the AFC board is screwed up on it, and the power transformer is fried. Thankfully, I got some schematics from another list member who carefully reverse-engineered each board. It does work with an external supply but the AFC (which I can't seem to turn off) keeps creeping the VFO to even KC multiples. There's a dead fet on the AFC board which I gotta replace. Too many projects and too little time.

This is an extremely well-engineered receiver; certainly the best of its era. Comes complete with its own extender card for troubleshooting! The only thing I'd question in the engineering is the 100% use of white wires for the chassis wiring. Makes tracking down a particular wire a tad difficult.

I'm not sure that it's a US Navy receiver since mine has Vint Hill Farms tags on it. Vint Hill was an Army Security Agency sigint site until it was gutted in the Clinton era.

  Meir and Group,

This was part of the U.S. Navy Waterboy system used aboard submarines. I heve yet to see a manual for one. Paul Zecchino at Mil Spec Communications in Englewood, Fl. had a couple of them awhile back.

    Hello Group,
This may not be a contemporary "Premium RX" but it certainly appears to have
    been in its day...
A friend of mine acquired an R-1414/URR receiver, apparently manufactured by
Sylvania, according to markings on some modules. There is no
government/military nomenclature or manufacturer's tags, but R-1414 is
scratched on the chassis (is it an NSA special?). This is a solid state
LF/MF/HF receiver, with Nixie tube frequency display. It works well, but a
    manual/copy is needed.
The receiver photo can be seen at

Any info and/or documentation would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
