In trying to get hold of Joe Watson (W5WBR) and Jerry Kincade (W5KP)
at the E-mail addresses shown in their biographies, I find that both
addresses are now invalid. Anyone who has a good address for either or
both is invited to send them to me.
I see that I don't have a bio; perhaps it's time I provided one, so
here it is:
I live in Norman, Oklahoma a sub-suburb of Oklahoma City, and found
this list while looking for information on my DEBEG 2000.
I started in electronics in 1957, when I was 11, with an EICO FM tuner
kit, which was followed rather quickly by DYNACO stereo amplifier and
preamp kits. Then I was tempted and fell, buying and building an all-
band receiver kit[1], and getting bitten by the ham-bug while trying
to track CW signals with that really-drifty receiver. A Heath DX-40
and a Novice ticket (WN5EGO, in 1963) followed, and I still have my
Novice logbook somewhere.
The Novice lapsed when I went off to Rice University, followed by some
work in the manned space program, and then to the US Air Force, where
I did ... electronics, of course.
Now I work for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, in the
Technology Services Division, where I've worked up to assistant
division manager, over the mainframe computer operations, systems
programming, and network branches.
My only premium receiver -- and it just barely fits the bill -- is my
DEBEG 2000, which I'm working to get up-and-running again. I also have
an R-390 (restored by Rick Mish), three work-in-progress R-390A, a
RACAL 6217E, an ITT/Mackay 3020B, a Yaesu FRG-100, an ICOM PCR-1000,
and a transceiver I bought from a former boss, K5ELD.
Next step: get my General (or maybe Extra) ticket, and put that
transceiver to work.
[1] I'm ashamed to say I've forgotten what model or make; I seem to
remember Allied, but did Allied sell kits?
