I wonder if there is anyone out there who has worked with the A17 Remote
Control Assembly on the RF-590 (or 1310) who might share with me anything
that they have found out about the EBCDIC codes and protocols that can be
sent to the A17 LCU from a terminal by way of HEX strings to wake up the
EPROM or otherwise provide handshake or, even some measure of basic control.
I'm connected via the RS-232 and so far am getting a HEX 00 when the
receiver is turned on and an FF when it its turned off. Before I start to
play 'how long would it take a thousand monkeys typing randomly on a
thousand typewriters to write Shakespeare', it would be nice to have a some
clues as to what the beast expects. Now, if the data in the EPROM on the LCU
has been encrypted, tranposed or otherwise altered from standard EBCDIC, I
know I don't have a chance. I think it's open, however and if it is, there
is no reason why some sort of ASP.NET module could not be written to provide
a GUI to act as a RCU. Since I'm neither a IT specialist or an electronics
professional, I may be stretchting greatly here, but I hate to see the A17
just sit there in the 590 doing nothing.
Many thanks for any suggestions or help.
Jim
