Fellow list members,

What better group of talented and motivated folks to mount a concerted
effort to quantifying and documenting the effects of the coming BPL
blight. I have posted a nice document entitled:

"IEEE Standard Procedures for the Measurement of Radio Noise from
Overhead Power Lines and Substations" here for your perusal:
http://home.earthlink.net/~calvinf15/_technical/radio_noise_from_power_l
ines_ANSI_430-1986.pdf

In it you may find time-honored and specific techniques and procedures
used to quantify the amount of Radio Noise from power lines. Chapter 5
is specifically aimed at measuring 0.1 to 30 MHz energy from power
lines.

Perhaps if the FCC is inundated by good hard quantitative evidence of
this sillyness, they will have to give credence to the common taxpayer,
and not just the power companies with the deepest pockets. Maybe if we
can qualify our measurements with this respected standard, it will help
break the FCC perception of anecdotal and emotional stories.

Please do your part to help save our precious HF airwaves! Break out
those expensive calibrated receivers of yours and have fun conducting
some great field-day measurements, if not in your own back-yard! It's
not too late to stop the rules which would allow power companies from
making a quick buck by trashing our airwaves.

Best Regards

Adam MacDonald, N1GX
