Hi John, from what I have been able to learn so far the WJ8716 is very very
similar to the 8718 except for extra shielding and there may be some optional
filtering. I don't think Watkins-Johnson actually made a separate manual for
the 8716, only a supplement to the 8718. On the sensitivity problem, one thing
you can check yourself is to make sure all of the plug-in cards on topside and
all plug-in connectors on bottom side are seated properly. Member Terry
O'Laughlin suggested to me to unplug all of the plug-in cards one at a time, wipe
the contacts with De-Oxit and then re-seat all the cards. I found it is a good
idea to do the same thing to all of the plug-in connectors on the bottom side
of the motherboards also. I had an 8716 with a strange problem recently and
apparently one of the plug-in connectors on the bottom side was not seated
properly. After re-seating the connectors the radio is working normally again.
Always a good idea to check the 'low-tech' items first, it just may save a lot of
work and troubleshooting later on. 73 Todd Roberts WD4NGG.
