My understanding is the 8716 is a version of the 8718 with greater
shielding to meet the military TEMPST specification. For instance, the
8718 has screw terminal connections for audio connectors on back, the
8716 has BNC.

Tempst was a program to reduce the possiblity of communication
intercepts from IF and power line emissions, etc.

Hello Y'all:

I have a WJ 8716 which seems a little deaf. I will turn it over to a
Ham who has the test equipment to run a sensitivity test on it.

A 1 inch-thick ' Operating & Service Manual ' came with it, titled '
Watkins-Johnson WJ 8716 / 8718 HF Communications Receiver '. Once
inside the manual there is not another word said about WJ 8716. All
reference is to the WJ 8718.

Are the 8716/18 so similar circuit-wise that this one manual suffices
for both ?

Your comments will be appreciated !

Thank you.
