[Premium-Rx] HP 8640B phase noise test ?

I would start with a real clean crystal oscillator and a mixer. Then the IF
port  through a narrow filter to a scope. I have seen this method described
in a HP8640 operating manual somewhere.
Maybe as part of a calibration procedure????  fc
