Fellow Members:
Jerry Dowell, presently living in Portola Valley, California has joined the Premium-Rx List. Licensed since 1953 as K6DGE and since 1978 as AI6L, Jerry is a physicist by training, and presently is a Senior Staff Scientist at Agilent Technologies (Ed note- somehow Agilent just does ring as clear as the name Hewlett-Packard), specializing in intellectual property manager for the mass spectrometry R&D organization. Also of note, in the 80's, Jerry was a NSA-certified TEMPEST engineer and was hired by HP to help start their TEMPEST production division.
When home Jerry prefers DXing, but now that he is approaching that period he calls; "less professional activity" (aka retirement) he has started to enjoy more homebrewing. He became a receiver addict very early on in his ham career, noting his S-40B was inadequate, he acquired a top-of-the-line Howard with preselector, which then got traded for a 1936 HRO. He took a week out of my life as a grad student to design and build an elaborate receiver, which he states; "worked very well", but was abandoned for a Drake 2B because it was smaller.
After a few years, it was a R-388A, then a 51J4, next a 75A4, and finally a love relationship with a Squires-Sanders SS-1R purchased from fellow Premium-Rx List member, Rob Sherwood. He states; "In fact, in many ways the SS-1R is one of the best-performing receivers I have ever operated". More radios have come and gone including Makay-Marine 3010, Collins 651S1, and presently a TR-7A.
Jerry has been reading the archives for some time and finally decided to join the membership. He can be reached at: jerryandgail at earthlink.net
