I have owned one of these circa 1980, and remember not being 
able to decode SITOR because of the pumping of the audio derived 
AGC loop. Seemed that there was no way that the AGC loop time 
constant could keep up with any suppressed carrier non-voice 
input.  Sure sounded good on AM (like a 5-tube superhet) tho.       
Wes Hayward had nothing good to say about it, used it as a bad 
example of modern design in his reciever design lectures at the 
local ARRL meets around 1982 or so.

Jim McVein (used to rip off 5-tube superhets from the charity drop 
box in my much younger days, rejoiced to find the occasional 
Philco. Discovered the Wolfman Jack at an early age.)
