Not quite, Richard. I've designed lots of mil-spec stuff in my days (25+
yrs, with stints at Honeywell Research and Raytheon). We used 723's all the
time, for low noise applications, and I am sure plenty are still in use 25
years later! But they are not the same 723 you get at Radio Shack...they
are "Established Reliability" models and WILL last 25 years, especially if
they are sitting still all that time.

Francis,
If someone was flying 723s over Iraq that were 20 years old - someone hasn't
been reading the date codes... or complying with MIL standard 883. In which
case
we all ought to duck down quick! :-) :-)
No military device has a working life of 20 years. 5 years of it is lost
right
away in the initial burn-in process that they have to go through.
The design might be 20 years old, but the actual devices will be quite new.
In
reliability terms - this is important when comparing to a device that
actually
is 20 years old (as are the ones in my quad-8). These devices were also
burnt-in
- so they are, inequivalent terms, about 40 years old now.
Makes you think, doesn't it?
Best regards.... Richard
