[PPRAANet] Network advice/question

Long story, but I'll try to shorten it.
Had DSL for years. Was running 40Mbps for years until several years ago
when I upgraded to 80Mbps. Somewhere in past 10 years I upgraded to a
Netgear NightHawk R7400 router so as to never use the DSL WiFi router again.
For a couple years, I've been vowing to drop the landline, and since
fiber has been available for close to a year now, I was getting ever
closer to doing that. Just before end of December I decided to take the
plunge (and purge of landline) with Quantum's 940 Mbps option.
I hadn't reviewed my existing infrastructure beforehand, so I had to do
some troubleshooting. Fortunately, almost all of my existing cabling is
at least cat 5E, so I'm good there. I had to replace several ethernet
switches which were only 100Mbps. BUT, I am finding that my NightHawk
R7400 router just can't handle the 940 Mbps (tests at 950) out of the
fiber modem. The router LAN ethernet ports consistently show only about
550-600 Mbps with the 940 input.
So, my questions are:
1) Can anyone confirm that the R7400 just isn't up the task?
2) Do I need to upgrade to a WiFi 6 router?
3) What is recommended by any of you network mavens for such a router?
4) I've had pretty good coverage with the sole router, but should I
consider mesh? *
5) If mesh, what's a good one while keeping cost down?
* 2390 sq ft, 3 levels - main, upper, basement
Thanks much in advance!
