I agree that the proper process would have been to opt in if wanted rather than having to opt out if not wanted.  That would require integrity and I am not sure that our elected officials know what integrity is.

That said,  I really do like the option of having the ability to opt in and get the state pass for just $29.  I renewed in April and have already recovered the cost as I activate POTA parks.  It is sure a savings over the previous annual pass.

Frankly, I think it is bogus BS to automatically force the opt-IN option for every vehicle registration - new OR renewal. If one isn't paying attention, you'll end up paying the fee for every vehicle you own, whether you use that vehicle to go to a state park or not.

If you realize after the fact, and wish to have it refunded, it is a PITA to do that.

Vehicle registration should not involve a state-mandated con game.
