[PPRAANet] Club Discord? - DIY, open alternatives

For those who are inclined toward the DIY, off-grid, and self-reliant aspects of ham radio, I would recommend an open-source and self-hosted alternative to Discord. We could use cloud-hosted services while we're on-grid, but also bring a self-hosted server with us when we deploy to the field (field day, POTA events, special-event stations, etc.).

Perhaps with some of the network expertise in the club, we could make this a collaborative project. I would volunteer to work with any interested folks to implement any of these alternatives:

Another service is one John mentioned: Mastodon is a micro-blogging system like Twitter but again, more ham-friendly and open-culture-compatible. Again, I would be willing to team up with anyone who's interested in deploying such a service. There's lots to learn about in this field!
