If folks are getting a bunch of bogus emails posing as people or accounts you know, it may not be that the person they are impersonating has been hacked.  It may be that in your phone, you opted to “share” contacts between apps and people have gotten into YOUR contact list and are using it against you.  As a basic security measure for phones and tablets, you should never allow apps to share contacts.
