I received the following email from Senator Bennet (below my sig).
I take issue with this statement from Senator Bennet:
"...deed restrictions, are entered into by property owners upon purchase
of the land and govern what can and cannot be done on the restricted
property, including <...> the construction of /*large*/ antennas used by
amateur radio operators."
*/Emphasis mine./*
Apparently Senator Bennet is imagining large, complex guyed towers in
residential backyards, which tells me that he is unfriendly to Amateurs
and is attempting to insert weasel wording into his correspondence to
justify keeping poor Americans safe from the proliferation of these
unsightly steel structures that trashy radio amateurs are wont to
install all over the place.
Yes, I may be reading a little more into his email than he intended, but
knowing politicians like I do, I don't think so. These guys carefully
measure each word and have a team of lawyers that pore over each missive
before they are issued, so I'm sure from Senator Bennet's email that
he's not a friend of amateur radio.
Maybe he just hasn't heard from enough of us?

Dear Phillip:
Thank you for contacting me regarding amateur radio and community
association standards. I appreciate hearing from you on this issue.
As you know, many residential properties are governed by homeowners
agreements or covenants, conditions, and restrictions (CC&Rs). These
CC&Rs, also known as deed restrictions, are entered into by property
owners upon purchase of the land and govern what can and cannot be done
on the restricted property, including prohibiting painting houses
certain colors or the construction of large antennas used by amateur
radio operators.
S. 1534 has been referred to the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science,
and Transportation. While I am not a member of this Committee, I will
keep your thoughts and concerns in mind should this bill or similar
legislation come before the full Senate.
I value the input of fellow Coloradans in considering the wide variety
of important issues and legislative initiatives that come before the
Senate. I hope you will continue to inform me of your thoughts and concerns.
For more information about my priorities as a U.S. Senator, I invite you
to visit my website at http://bennet.senate.gov/. Again, thank you for
contacting me.
Sincerely,
Signature
Michael F. Bennet
United States Senator
