Thanks, Wes. I'm sure the folks on the PPRAA reflector don't mind
seeing updates on Dean. I didn't know of his accident until Jim, AB0UK
told me yesterday on 146.52. I was saddened by the news, as I have
known Dean for many years, as well as Kit.

Obviously it was a very traumatic fall. He and his family are in our
prayers for a full recovery.

73,

Dick

Dean's not a member of PPRAA, although a lot of people in the Club do
know him. Wasn't sure it would be appropriate for the PPRAA reflector.
An update from his son, Kit, is below.

Thanks for asking!

Tuesday May 30th

The sedation was removed, allowing Dean Haskins to be evaluated by the
neuro surgeon. Today's actions and wording from the doctor were more
positive and hopeful than the initial assessment on Sunday. The staff
is also working on reducing the dependency of the ventilator and placed
a feeding tube to help replenish nutrients. The nutrients is in the
form of a brown paste, and does vaguely resemble the food in the
cafeteria :)

Sometimes Dean Haskins will response to verbal commands such as "open
your eyes." There is no clear understanding if Dean is still Dean. We
are still waiting for him to wake up and be fully aware of his
surroundings, at which time doctors can proceed with diagnostics and
treatment of the injuries sustained Sunday afternoon.

The results today are positive. We are not yet to the point of "open
your eyes and tell us a bad joke," it is also not unreasonable to expect
long stay at the hospital. I have heard a few in the past 48 ~ 72 hours
and they are new material for KA0PII as I have not heard them already :)

We have received various items, cards, flowers (a plant of some sort)
and phone calls (via my cellular phone or other family members cellular
phones). I would like to again thank people for their support and well
wishes. Today's news is a positive one and hopefully will continue.
