Sorry for the list duplication. But I need to get the word out to all Hams in the area.
REQUEST FOR HAM OPERATORS !!!
It's time to start planning for this year's PPIHC. I am requesting operators to provide safety communications support for the 2006 PPIHC. Please reply to me ONLY (not the entire Reflector list) with your name, call sign, address, phone number and position preference, if you have one. I'll be posting the Mission Plan, Handbook, Application and other information to the internet later. I will maintain an e-mail list of those that volunteer to keep you up to date with pertinent information.
There are a few significant changes this year that will affect us.
1. The race day is Saturday, July 1 (no conflict with Field Day).
2. There will be practicing/qualifying on the hill only on Thursday and Friday (setup and logistic work on Monday and Tuesday) prior to the race.
3. You need to sign up no later than Monday, June 19. This is to allow time to have the new credentials (color coded and hologram) made and get them to each of you. I think I may be required to have you sign for them.
4. THE MOST IMPORTANT CHANGE - Due the fatality last year of a volunteer (flagger), THERE WILL BE A MANDATORY SAFETY MEETING BY THE RACE DIRECTOR. This meeting will take place on the hill at 10:00AM on April 29, 2006 at the Pikes Peak Highway Maintenance Shed. It is a right turn just prior to crossing the Crystal Reservoir Dam. Just let the people at the toll gate know you are attending a meeting for the 2006 PPIHC.
Note: If you can not attend this safety briefing on 4/29, there will be ONE more some time in late June (location and place undetermined). THIS IS FIRM, if you can not attend one of these two meetings, YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO WORK THE HILL CLIMB THIS YEAR.
By the way, unless things change or get worse (????), there is a good possibility that camping will be allowed on the hill this year. I'll keep you posted.
If you have any questions, please contact me (via e-mail preferably).
Thanks and 73.
