The British Parliment may have outlawed foxhunting, but its still legal in
Colorado! This is a reminder that the PPRAA foxhunt (hidden transmitter
hunt - no, we don't actually kill foxes!) will take place this afternoon.
Below are the instructions that were sent out earlier in the week. I hope
to see you there!

Our foxhunt will start at 1300 (1:00 pm) Sunday 19 Sep from the parking lot
in front of the Albertson's grocery store at the corner of Union and
Research in Briargate. The transmit frequency will be announced and
everyone will be given an opportunity to hear the fox before we start.
Unless you are a marathon runner, this hunt will require vehicles, so come
prepared! Those not equipped to hunt from vehicles can still participate
though! Just show up and I'm sure that we can pair you up with a more
experienced hunter.

The object will be to find the actual antenna, (not the transmitter), in the
shortest time possible. Pulling on any coaxial cable you find is not
permitted! When (if!) you find the antenna you should notice a small
notepad with numbered pages. Tear off the top page surreptitiously so that
no one else can see that you have found the antenna, pretend to continue
searching, and quietly inform me that you have found the fox. I will record
the time. There is an impressive trophy for the winner of the hunt!

While this is a timed hunt, not mileage, everyone MUST obey all traffic
rules! Anyone observed driving in an imprudent manner will be penalized. I
have enlisted the assistance of the United States Air Force Space Command
and five of their surveillance satellites to enforce this! (Okay, I lied -
I could only have 3 satellites!)

You are allowed to hunt in teams, but teams are limited to one vehicle.
Once everyone has found the fox, or after a suitable period of time has
elapsed, the hunt will be terminated. I will do this by announcing that the
hunt has ended on the fox's transmit frequency. Everyone will then gather
in a nearby restaurant to have a coffee, eat a snack, and swap tall tales
about the hunt!

Not equipped to hunt for hidden transmitters on 2 meters? Not a problem!
Just do a search on the Internet for foxhunting and you will find all sorts
of designs for easy-to-build antennas and other gadgets to help you ferret
out the fox!
