Greetings All Fox Hunters.
The next fox hunt will be on Sunday, Dec 5, 2004
starting at 1 pm. The starting location will be at
the High Chaparral Open Space park. Directions and
information can be found at:
http://www.springsgov.com/Page.asp?NavID=2888
This location is just east of Austin Bluffs Pkwy on
Stetson Hills Blvd at the base of the water tank in
the Old Farm neighborhood. This is a high point in
eastern Colorado Springs and should give a good
starting bearing.
The scoring will be slightly different this time.
Instead of the shortest time to find the fox, the
winner will be determined by the shortest mileage
driven to find the fox. So even if a team is the last
to find the fox but had the shortest mileage, they
will be the winner! The fox should be easy to find
this time but strategy will be key to make sure you
don't drive all over town trying to zero-in on the
location. In the case of a mileage tie, the
tie-breaker will then be the shortest time.
General Rules
The fox will be on 146.565 MHz. As with previous
foxes, it will transmit every five minutes for
approximately 1.5 minutes. I will also monitor 146.97
repeater.
The fox will be located in El Paso County and not in
Manitou Springs or the foothills west of Colorado
Springs because of all the problems with reflections.
The fox will be on public land. Do not cross on
private property and obey all traffic laws (fox
hunting is not an excuse for speeding, trespassing,
etc). If you have to leave your vehicle to take a
bearing, be sure to find a place to do so such that
your vehicle or yourself is not a traffic hazard or
obstructing traffic.
The current weather forecast is showing a warm up for
Saturday, so hopefully it will continue into Sunday.
Happy hunting and hope to see all on Sunday. Everyone
is welcome to come out and try fox hunting. If you
have never tried before, come out and we can get you
teamed up with someone that would be happy to help you
out.

PS. I have a spare beam antenna and attenuator if
someone would like to try hunting. You supply the
radio, compass, and maps and you will be ready to
hunt.
