When you are out back packing use the HF back packers Frequency Clock for
contacts.
The HF pack Frequency Clock is an hourly synchronized operating schedule that
makes it possible to communicate with another HFpacker at any time of the day
or night if propagation is good.
The HFpack Logo has numbers around the outside. These are HF frequencies that
correspond to the minutes of a clock.
See http://www.qsl.net/hfpack/image/hfpack_logoclock.gif
It was originally developed as a way to conserve battery power for portable
to portable communications by minimizing the calling time. Only a few brief
calls are needed during the proper ten-minute time windows.
To set up a QSO, simply decide which hour or approximate time of the day is
convenient for both operators. According to the Frequency Clock, simply call
a few times at the appropriate time window. By synchronizing time and
frequency, the probability of a successful contact is increased. If the most
likely bands for a specific QSO are already known, then it is only necessary
to call on those bands.
The Freq Clock may also be used on a general basis at any time for random
HFpack contacts. Especially on weekends, it is possible to make QSOs at
different distances that would otherwise be unlikely simply by monitoring one
specific frequency.
