I am opposed to the government interfering in private codes, covenants and
restrictions in this and in all but the most aggregious circumstances. (I
can't even think of any exceptions at this point!) I agree with Hefley's
position although I despise most politicians because they are usually trying
to use the power of government to promote their favorite causes, force their
crap down my throat and make me pay for it!

I don't want to get into a big debate and may well not speak or write
further on this topic but along with being an amateur radio operator I am a
libertarian who believes in the freedom of contract. By and large, and with
very few exceptions, if people moved into a covenanted community, they did
so voluntarily with knowledge of the rules and now want to change them with
the coercive power of government, but as far as I am concerned, they are
stuck with them, just as we are (and should be) stuck with the consequences
of all our choices. Many of us want to use the heavy hand of government to
promote our favorite causes (even the most saintly and worthwhile), but then
will complain bitterly when others with other agendas (even the most
"saintly and worthwhile") want to do the same.

It just depends whose ox is being gored this time. I disagree with that
approach and attitude. You ask government to "give" you something and the
government does so by taking it away from someone else: it has the same
power to take it away from you when the next gang of hoodlums gets into
power. This is one of the reasons the world is such a mess.

Down off the soapbox, Daniel!
