[PCR-1000] PCR-1000 static

For the sake of creating some activity on this list:

I've been using my PCR-1000 essentially daily for at least the
last 6 or 7 years  - I bought one of the early models.  It's just suffered
its first failure, caused by static.  Looking at the schematic, I believe
one of the diodes that switch the attenuator in or out has gone.
The symptoms are (1) that the attenuator, which normally switches
in about 20 dB, now only changes the gain by about 8 dB, and
(2) that I now get horrendous intermodulation - FM-band signals from
about 90 to 100 MHz appear down around 5-15 MHz.  Apart from
that, the receiver is still working.  The EPROM is not corrupted,
as shown by a "verify" against a backup I have.

Although I'm fairly sure it's one of the 2 diodes that switch the
attenuator, the surface-mount components put me off trying to fix
it myself, so it's gone back to Icom for repair.  About 3 weeks so
far and no news, but I suppose it's early days.

      Have others experienced any similar problem?
