[PCR-1000] EPROM Back up

Ken,

As I said in several posts; buy a model 26-183 from Radio Shack.  It will
convert the RS-232 port on the PCR rcvr to USB 2.0.

I use the PCR on a desktop running WIN-XP-Pro and a notebook running WIN-ME.
Never had a problem with either O/S.

Latest version of TalkPCR does support Win-XP, and Win-XP-Pro.

The backup routine in Talk has 3 modes, read, compare, write.  Select "read"
and it will create an internal file that will contain all the EEPROM code.

I run the radio and the computers off of a 1Kva UPS system to insure clean
and constant power to the units.

>From what I have heard, the EEPROM tends to scramble its code when the radio
is trying to use it during a power sag/spike, or loss of power.

I also recommend a receiver preselector since the front end of the PCR-1000
is so broadband it will de-modulate all sorts of images, harmonics, etc.

Thanks for the back-up info.  I tried to back up the EPROM with the TalkPCR
but for some reason I couldn't get it to work.  Thank goodness I've been
fortunate so far but WILL try it or the Bonito method real soon.  I've had
many problems trying to enjoy my PCR1000 between the USB serial adapter
(since my machines all have USB but no actual old fashion RS232 connections)
and most recently learning that the TalkPCR software was not designed for
Windows XP but have heard some have had luck with Windows XP Professional.
Sooooo, I'm still looking forward to enjoying it more.
