[PCR-1000] PCR1000 and Optoelectronics Digital Scout questions

Hi,

I've been using the Digital Scout with both a PCR1000 and a PCR100, and they
work toghether very well. I have actually installed the PCR100 in my car,
and all I need to do is plug in the Scout, and away it goes. You can control
the volume and squelch, and it will tune captured frequencies in real time,
aswell as the memories as you select each one.

I found it to be much more sensitive than the normal Scout (I have both),
and I would recommend VERY strongly the use of filters. There is a company
called Minicircuits (http://www.minicircuits.com) which sell really
excellent high-pass and low-pass filters, you can choose from a very wide
range. Combining two filters, you can effectively concentrate on a certain
segment, for example, a 130 MHz high-pass and a 460 MHz low-pass leave out
anything above or below those frequencies, and you'll find your Scout can
pick up a 10-watt radio from over half a mile away. Commercial FM, pagers,
etc. obliterate everything else, so filters are a must. They go for about
$35 each.

The digital functionality in itself is not that useful, as detecting digital
signals you cannot demodulate is, in most cases, not too useful - however,
you'll find that since it can count very short pulses, it can sometimes pick
up very elusive frequencies.

Apart from this, it has a full RS-232 serial port, which means no shift
level converters, Optolinx, etc. are required to connect it to a PC - a
simple DB9 to 3.5mm plug is all that is needed (and included in the box).
