[PCR-1000] Advice please.

I've lurked the lists for awhile to try to make a good decision.
Now I would appreciate advice that will help make this adventure good:

1. I've placed an order:

2. I've erected a discone antenna for the higher frequencies. I think of it
as a temporary effort...since it is only about 30ft high now.
3. I've have  two G5RV antennae  102ft top and one 51ft ... and although
both are not up, I've been using the smaller one with a portable radio with
some satisfaction...I think the larger would do better.
4. I drove an 8ft copper rod 6 feet deep, next to the house, and attached 12
gauge copper wire from the ground to a 'lightening arrestor' which is
basically just a connector with a ground to the shield (not the kind with a
surge protection).
5. I will check out all the software...but I'm certain to be getting
TalkPCR.
6. I bought a Model MFJ-956 Preselector/Tuner.

What have I forgotten? What should I check into? What would improve the
setup?
