That was exactly what happened to me.
The Bonito software trashed mine as well.
I did not know anything about backing up the eeprom at the time.
The radio was brand new and I didn't want to send it to ICOM to be fixed.
I had a friend with a new radio send me his backup and I restored it to my
radio.
I know that each eeprom is tuned to each radio. But I took my chances. (I
still don't want to be without my radio)

I've tested the 30MHz and under bands against a Yaesu FRG-100 and it seemed
to hold it's own.

Maybe I was lucky, But I have no idea how it holds up on the upper bands.

I have heard of users getting eeprom problems when leaving
the reciever on at boot or shut-down.
As for me, i have the reciever on when booting up and shutting
down... no problems so far (but - of topic - i did get my eeprom
really messed up by RComm from Bonito a year ago).
