Could it be that the pole is not hearing as well as the dipole and the noise
is really there? You say you have the same relative signal strength on both
antennas....if the relative signal strength is the same then the pole does
not hear down into the noise.
Additionally, have you tried the Noise Blanker? (NB) It will eliminate many
local types of interference.
Find the weakest signal you can hear on the dipole and then switch to the
pole and see if it is better or worse...if it is better then you are right,
the pole is better, if it is worse, then the pole is not receiving into the
noise...
noise is always there on AM, unless you squelch it out.
