[PCR-1000] full coverage antenna

Diamond discone antenna that would fall into your #2 category.  It isn't for
HF reception, but 25mhz and up it's great!  I also broke down and ran 9913
cable which seems to be pretty good stuff.

I have a radio shack discone and it works pretty well also.... The
construction quality isn't as good as the diamond, but it still works pretty
well (I transmit on the radio shack one, it's a portable setup for me)

For what it's worth I also have a 2 meter ringo ranger antenna.... I get
nearly identical receive in the HF range as my discone.  In the 900mhz range
the discone is MUCH better than the 2 meter antenna (gee, imagine that!)
I'm still able to copy psk31 and some SSTV signals reasonably well on the HF
band with either antenna.  A longwire would probably work a lot better, but
it's cold out there right now and snowy.

Just following this thread and I am wondering...

As I see it there are four basic discones out there,,,,,,

1) upper and lower elements in a "starburst" pattern

2) same as above but with single vertical element which is coil loaded

3) same as #2 but vertical element is NOT coil loaded

4) this one looks like a cross between something out of "Dungeons and 
Dragons" and "razor wire" with far fewer elements...maybe six or so....

I would be interested in which ones everyone is having most success with 
because right now I am switching a 2 meter groundplane and a 20 meter dipole

for different bands and one antenna would be great...
