You could also try some ferrite cores on the serial cable if you think you
are getting stray RF down the lines.  I can hear some 'birdies' around my
cpu clock frequency, the PCI clock frequency (33 mhz) and a few others I
don't remember.

How about your ground?  The ground through the outlet for your computer's
case is pretty insufficient I would say from and RF standpoint.  I use the
standard 8ft ground rod with a bit of 4 gauge cable (it was free and large.)
