[PCR-1000] Good scanning software?

Daniel,
There are actually quite a few different programs for the PCR1000.
Unfortunately, the Bonito organization, and their software really suck.
This is from personal experience. Personally, TalkPCR is a neat
program, I personally use ScanStar( www.scanstar.com ) Spectrum Manager.
It is not a cheap program, in fact it cost as much as my first PCR1000
with UT106, plus a hundred dollars. If you take time to explore the
internet, and do several searches, e.g. " radio control software " and "
PCR1000 software applications " You will find Visual Radio, Scan Cat,
TalkPCR, PCRPro 1K, ScanStar Spectrum Explorer. There are palmtop
applications as well.
I recently bought an ICOM R8500, and the Spectrum Manager software has
support for higher end receivers, it is, compared to all the other
software control apps I have tried, the most professional GUI, and
numerous utilities. For me it is worth the money, and, unlike Bonito,
it comes from San Jose, and the organization is customer driven, unlike
Bonito, who feels if they can dupe you into buying their software, they
can forget about the problems that Radio Comm has caused. For me, Radio
Comm corrupted the EEPROM in my first PCR1000. I was dumb, and it cost
me $150.00. Icom said even though the radio was under warranty, third
party software is "use at your own risk" It is kind of humourous that
five months later, they were shipping Bomito software with the PCR1000.
Back up your EEPROM. Keep it safe.
I would also recommend trying as many apps as you can. Most all of the
programs have demos. Take time and try as many as you can, and check
them out completely. AND BACK UP YOUR RADIO EEPROM ! ! ! It took me
six months to decide on what suits me. Flexibility, support, ongoing
product improvement are important to me.
Good luck and remember "Caveat Emptor"

Subject: [PCR-1000] Good scanning software?
Hello.
I am a newbie to this list group and have received a PCR1000 about a
month ago. I am interested in finding out what is the best scanning
software available for this receiver.
I currently have Bonito RadioCom 4.0 and it just doesn't seem to make
the grade for scanning the trunked frequencies like I would enjoy it to
do.
Thanks for all your advice.
Daniel
