[PCR-1000] HIGH / LOW s/n

Surely price is a factor here ? I know I can get a better receiver if I
pay more money (or buy second hand). The overload performance isn't
great, but there seems to be a lot of higher priced equipment with just
as bad or worse. Can't comment on selectivity, except I haven't had a
problem with AM and SSB at this QTH and its nice to be able to widen out
to 15kHz for AM broadcasts. Its probably a real pain for CW enthusiasts
tho.

Yes its a toy radio and Yes - I would do it again for sure because my
hobbies are all about playing with my toys. OTOH I read somewhere that
iCom loses money on each unit that it sells - so they may be less
enthusiastic.

venture whose results predictably have left Icom with a less than
enthusiastic attitude toward its support. It is always indicative when

product is not followed by the "new, inmproved" version within a year .

My initial impression of the PCR-1000 and my continuing impression is
that
it is a unique "toy radio" that gave me an introduction to computer
controlled radios. It encouraged me to buy the Kachina 505 DSP and
later on
to computer-control all my radios.

But, on it merits, the PCR-1000 is a relatively low-performance
receiver.
Selectivity for use in the amateur bands is woefully inadequate and
the
front end will crumble at the slightest intrusion of a strong signal.

The wide frequency and mode coverage make the little box handy for
general
monitoring and band checking, but that is about the only use I have
found
for it.

Not sorry I bought it, but I wouldn't do it again . . .
