[PCR-1000] RE: PCR-1000 digest, Vol 1 #57 - 1 msg

   Thanks- backed up the EEPROM right off the bat, using TalkPCR. I haven't
thought of what I'm gonna do long-term as far as an antenna, but for now I
have a cheapo Radio Shack telescoping 25-1300 mhz attatched outside my
window- I live in an apartment, so I'm limited...  I'm gonna go the
long-wire, active preselector route for HF, I reckon. I've loved shortwave
DXing since I was very young, but never had the opportunity to buy a really
good receiver, so all the bandwidth stuff is new to me. Gonna take a lot of
experimenting to get the radio in the perfect position to avoid noise, but
that's half the fun of DXing. I love the features of TalkPCR, but dang, I
wish it was as pretty as ICOM's interface. Is there or will there ever be
such a thing as a remote tuning knob? I wanna turn a knob!!

You're gonna love it.  First off though, if you haven't ordered an
antenna go ahead and do that.  The little telescoping thing that
comes with the radio is not that good.  Also, start thinking about
software...and the first thing you should do once it's hooked up is
to backup the EEPROM.  There are plenty of software packages
out there to do that for you.
