[PCR-1000] Considering PCR-1000

Some of the very early pcr1k's were able to be 'unlocked' by changing the
country code, although I'm not aware of the serial number cutoff.  The FCC
did clamp down on the manufacturers of easy-to-unblock receivers in 1998.

Then it was a 'zero ohm' resistor (jumpers) and the country code.

Now, I believe, it's part of the microcode, processor, jumpers, AND country
code and not easily or cheaply done.

The biggest factor is that there is, in many places in the US, very little
activity on the analog bands.  Almost all of it has 'gone digital'.  Anyone
with an 'analog plan' is paying more than the new digital plans that have
free phone, free long distance, no roaming, and lots and lots of night
minutes.  Our local phone company (SBC) has seen heir interstate long
distance business drop by millions, just for the state, due to folks making
their calls on cheap calling plans and cheap calling cards..  A brave new
world.
