[PCR-1000] PCR-1000 DSP

I am wondering how the ICOM DSP unit compares to standalone DSP audio
processing software. Does the ICOM unit apply the DSP at the IF stage,
is it worth the price difference? The sound samples on the PCR-1000
resources site for the DSP unit don't seem to make a significant
difference to my ears. Would appreciate ay comments & suggestions.
