[PCR-1000] *pathetic* PCR1000 servicing from Icom

Oh well.......

This is the same thread that went on in 1997 or so about the PCR-1000.
Conclusions then were that:

1) ICOM USA said that ICOM Japan was responsible, as they created the
program.  ICOM USA was not responsible

2) ICOM USA did not care about customer complaints.  I spoke with them at
Dayton one year, and their answer was to reformat the hard drive and
reinstall Windows 95.

3) ICOM offered the programming command set to third party programmers for a
price.  They would not support those who bought the command set, though.  By
that time, the command set was already figured out and on the web.  ICOM
then, to foil those who figured out the command set, told the world that if
they used a third party program to program the PCR-1000, that they wouldn't
be responsible for EEPROM corruption.  They failed to take responsibility
for a unit that COULD be corrupted - which is a poor design flaw in any
product.

4) They would not release the EX 2099 calibration software, as described in
their technical manual.

5) the EX 2099 software was found on a Portrugese web site!

6) Using the EX 2099 software, Patrick Masotta developed a program that
could back up the EEPROM, so if corruption occurred, you could restore the
original values.

7) He also found a way to open Cell frequencies on the units.

8) The FCC found out, and blasted ICOM-They then had to delete the cell
frequencies from the CPU/EEPROM.

Now the thread repeats.

I have been appalled with the poor support ICOM has given to the PCR-1000.
I have not bought another ICOM product since.  (They don't care!)

All of my links have gone dead, regarding the software availability.  Can
anyone give some "live" links?
