  It will require some kind of client/server approach where server is
continuoysly controlling the receiver and client program will query
status information or send commands to the server witch will then send
them to the receiver.

  Client could be command line program, sci script or text/graphical
user interface and it will talk with server whatever method is most
suitable for use operatin system. In addition it is much easier to make
only the user interface for special requirements.
