According to information from the National Weather Service Little Rock
website, "winter isn't over yet". Past years have seen winter events in
February and March.
On another note, a storm system at the end of next week (Jan. 22-23) could
be rather significant, and bring the first severe weather risk of 2010 to
the region. In fact, the Storm Prediction Center is already hinting at a
severe weather risk area by the middle of next week from east Texas, across
the lower Mississippi Valley, to the southeast United States. While, tornado
season "typically" doesn't start until March 1...we're coming up on the 11th
anniversary of the Jan. 21, 1999 tornado outbreak across Arkansas. That
outbreak saw the destruction of the Harvest Foods store on Main Street, just
south of downtown Little Rock...and the destruction of the Beebe High School
gym...where a basketball game had been stopped, and the gym evacuated 30
minutes before the tornado hit.
While modifications in the forecast are likely, keep tuned to the latest
