Hello all:

This message is from the STX SEC, and will pass it on.  If you are able to
go, please check in with me BEFORE you bug out.

Please let us know if there may be some assistance available for this
request from Arkansas, Louisiana, or North Texas.  You may be able to travel
South or West.

The ARES folks living in coastal Texas counties, and many other areas, are
evacuating inland.  All highways or roads leading North from the coast are
completely blocked with traffic.  Some road speeds (automated roadway
system) have average speeds of 2 MPH.  
Currently it requires over 16 hours to travel the 200 miles from Houston to
Dallas, if you can find gasoline.  None of the eight gas stations within two
miles of my home have gasoline available this morning.

Those of us who are not evacuating are preparing our homes.

We anticipate opening 20-25 shelters in Lufkin during the night tonight and
through the day tomorrow with severe weather (including loss of power)
forecast here for Friday and Saturday. Most cell phones towers here are
already overloaded.
 
Our Red Cross Director has asked that we man ALL shelters with Hams through
the weekend as Hams may be the only communications to our EOC, Shelter Hub &
Red Cross Center.
 
We do not have enough operators to meet these demands.  I sent requests to
all District 2 EC's and got no help.
 
I am requesting 20 operators if possible to be here Friday.  They will need
to bring mobile VHF radio/power source/mag mount and be self sufficient for
the duration.  The plan would be to house them at their designated shelter.
Talk in either on 444.575 + (107.2) or
146.94 - (no tone).  Check in to Shelter Hub at Lufkin High School.
 
Please let me know as soon as you can if this is possible.  
Otherwise we will not be able to meet our requested operations.
