All -
I had another visit with Robert Johnston this morning. He doesn't believe he will have the time to meet with us at 07:00 Saturday morning.
What we need to help with the race/walk:
HTs
2 stop watches for the timers stationed at the 1 and 2 mile marks.
What he indicated he wants from us:
1) People stationed at the following locations:
a) Start line (near the entrance to the White Hall Ball Park)
b) 1 mile mark (can be found by following the route. I will identify the exact intersection and share this information tomorrow)
c) 2 mile mark (again I'll identify the exact location of the 2 mile mark and share this information tomorrow)
d) finish line (which will be near the location we will be setting up our canopy)
2) When the race starts, the person at the start line will tell everyone (via radio) that the races has started - hopefully by giving a count down or we'll hear the horn/starting gun go off. The people stationed at the 1 mile and 2 mile marks will start their stop watches when they hear the announcement. As groups of 5 or so people come by the 1 and 2 mile marks, the person at the mark will call out the elapsed time since the races started.
3) We need to be in place by 07:25.
The runners and walkers will be preceded by a police car. An ambulance will sweep the course as the race/walk ends.
A 5K walk is about 3 miles. I don't think the race/walk will take more than 2 to 2.5 hours.
There are a couple of options on communications - simplex (146.52 comes to mind but we can pick whatever simplex frequency we want), or we can use the 147.165+ repeater, the 146.700- repeater, or the 443.700+ repeater. Both the 147.165+ and 443.700+ repeaters are nearby and should allow you to use a lower power setting on your HT.
Thanks,
Glenn
