Hi,
With the thread going on concerning 40 & 80, this seems like a good time to
post this one.
First some background:
If you've been on the reflector for a few years, you likely remember the
"Angry Texan"who e-mailed some of us a few years ago bemoaning the lack of
20 Meter activity during the party. I'm not going to give his callsign, but
its someone who I have great respect for, though I was quite PO'd with him
at the time.
His point was excellent, though. In the party, there will be stations in
other states (and countries) looking for you. Make an effort to get on 20
Meters, or 15, or 10. call CQ, and spot yourself. They will find you. Some
of them are county hunters, so please reciprocate when they send you a QSL.
Also,
- Use CW. I am not a great CW op, but if I can muddle though come contest
contacts, anyone can.
- Since spotting is allowed, don't be afraid to spot yourself, or those
rare counties you work; especially the rovers and mobiles. Use this mailing
list.
This year, Mike has given us a new tool to use; Facebook! Use it for spots.
Anyone who is active in NPOTA knows the power of Facebook. DISCLAIMER: I
know that Facebook is not everyone's cup of tea, and that is OK. I'm not
trying to convert you. BUT, if you ARE already on Facebook, check out this
new tool that we've been given.
BTW, this is the first year that we had Facebook available for the Ohio
State Parks On The air Contest. I would have to call it a success (Not just
because I'm on the OSPOTA board).
- If you are planning a mobile, or rover operation, I'm going to put in a
plug for my PQP site at www.kd8mq.net/pqp. It is NOT affiliated with the
Nittany club, so if you look at it, and don't like something, yell at me,
not Mike.
- Don't forget the Pre-Party Net on Friday night (3910 @ 0000Z)
Lastly, speaking of Mike, N3LI, I'd like to him for everything that he does
for the PQP. I'm sure he doesn't hear this enough, but Thanks!
Thanks for following along with my rambling. I'm looking forward to working
this years contest from our usual QTH; Buzzards Roost, in JEF.
73,
John, KD8MQ
