Alan,

Others may chime in as well, but I recommend focusing on 40 and 20 first
and foremost. 40m is very popular because you can usual get a good
combination of in and out of state stations, and it is always open. 20
meters is also very good because it will allow you to make the most out of
state contacts and pick up a large number of multipliers. There are a list
of recommended frequencies in the rules, be sure to read those over as best
you can.

After 20 and 40, I would see if you can get on 80m, which will be very good
in state and will also grab you much of the northeast, especially later in
the evening. 15m, if it opens up, would be next. But 40 and 20 are the best
starting place.

If you know morse code or have the capability to do digital those contacts
are worth 2 points instead of 1 for voice, although digital activity isn't
that fast paced for our party (but still worth monitoring).

Hope that helps, and look forward to hearing you during the contest.
