[PaQSO] Puzzling

Hi Mike,

I'm baffled too. PAQP was the first contest in which I participated. (I won't say how many thousand year ago.) I've watched the rules change a bit over the years (remember 1.5 points for CW Q's?) while the contest grew to be "Something Big".

This is a contest where a guy with 100 watts and a decent dipole, in a rare county, can feel like real rare DX. This is a contest where I can say "Hello" to old friends who I hear year-after-year but probably wouldn't recognize if I encountered them in a Mall.

It's a fun contest because I can operate from home, or go to a rare county and either way I can get some sleep overnight. The 2-day format is wonderful because I can't always get on for both days. I remember one year when I showed up for the first time about 1600 EDST Sunday and enjoyed a bottomless 2-hour run. :-)

I keep trying for a sweep of PA counties (never got more than 66), and wonder if anyone will every get a Super-sweep (all counties plus all ARRL/CRRL mults).

Thanks Mike (and before you, Doug) for all your hard work of organizing and managing. Thanks NARC for sponsoring the best weekend activity in Ham radio. And it isn't broken . . . don't fix it!

73, Blair K3YD

I’m also baffled.

If I might note, it gets a little discouraging to come home,
and most of what I hear is all the things I’m doing wrong. Both via the list and
privately.

I always suggest that people who love contesting should try
administering one. This is my tenth administration of the QSO Party. I am
amazed.

As you note - the party is not broken. It does not need fixed. The
original complaint that started this was an out of state Op who didn’t hear many
mobiles. As noted, propagation was not terribly good. We have mobiles, we have
activity.

I am going to take a few days off from the list now, to quiet my
ragged nerves. Carry on.

Mike
