Good morning PAQP'ers

The PAQP states on the website that
*"Mobiles and Rovers are truly the heart and soul of the Pennsylvania QSO
Party."....*
Active Mobile & Rover operators is the Key to a vibrant QSO Party.

I've participated in all of the state/regional QPs since I returned to ham
radio in 2013. I was a county hunter, net control station and county runner
in my previous chapter in ham radio and have been licensed since 1975.

I've spent almost a year retooling the SCQP to increase on-air
participation. Features included new rules, new scoring, multiple bonus
stations and new awards. We received 90 logs last year. So far, we've
received 150 logs and our deadline is the 20th. One weakness was that we
needed more mobile/rover operators.

Some ideas for increasing mobile activity for any QP.... We've implemented
some of these in our QP and considering others for 2016.

1. Create scoring incentives... I like the ideas that XLS just posted.
Increase scoring as the mobile/rover activates more counties. Perhaps they
receive 2 mults for every county activated...Perhaps a mobile would receive
more points per QSO and for fixed stations a mobile QSO is worth more
points. Some QP already do this.

2. Make the contest logging/reporting as easy as possible for the mobile
operator. Logging serial numbers my be difficult for 'new' first-time
mobiles. If you run 20+ counties, then you have to complete 20+ summary
forms. Create an online mobile summary form which includes data fields for
each county and one submission and attach the complete cabrillo file.

3. Have specific mobile awards categories. Create "Single Op without Drive"
and a "Single Op with Driver" categories. Have "Multi-Single" and
"Multi-Multi" mobile categories. It's difficult for a "single op no driver"
to compete with a "single op with driver' operation. The single op with
driver seems to be a huge incentive. We had a dual-car team run
"Multi-Multi" in the SCQP.

4. Publish/promote the mobile routes/trips - Post trip details on the
website for the mobiles/rovers.

5. Recruit, recruit, recruit.. Identify as many possible /m operators as
possible... Contact mobiles from previous years. Contact active county
hunters etc. Begin this process today for the 2016 event. You can never
recruit enough mobile ops. You may have contact 10-15 to get one solid
operator.

6. Give a mobile/rover station "Bonus Station" status.

7. Recruit mixed mode ops.- Two of our cw mobiles cancelled on us a week
before the QP. I would have loved to had a few more "mixed" mode mobile
ops. It's like a college football team... you have to recruit new players
every year..

and many more... .

I love the challenge of the QPs... IMO, the PAQP is definitely on my top 10
list. I plan to attend this one again next year. What new twist will the
PAQP offer for 2016? I can't wait to find out.

Please support N2CU/m in his NYQP adventure this weekend. .
