With all due respect to John, I disagree that shortening the contest to one day would improve things.
More activity on the upper bands during the afternoons and Sunday morning time slots would be better incentive for the out of state stations, especially those states further away from the Northeast. Something that will become a little tougher over the next few years, now that we're on the downside of the solar cycle.
And certainly encouraging more operators to run Mobile or Rover would be a big help as well.
But compressing the event into a single day? (Would we just drop Sunday? If so, would the Saturday start time change? How about the Saturday night/Sunday morning end time, would it be extended?) No, I just don't see it.
There will always be the Sunday doldrums where it's getting tougher to find people to work. It's part of many contests, including the major ones. Working around or through that comes into a station's strategy. But simply lopping the time out altogether? You penalize those who had a late start, or are only available to operate on Sunday (try running PaQP with a local start time of 11 PM because you had not one but TWO weddings and receptions on Saturday! ), or who have switched to S&P as they are hunting those last few ellusive counties.
No. Leave the operating dates/times alone. Find other ways to get more ops on the air, especially on Sundays.
That's my opinion. YMMV, of course.

Shortening the contest to one day will not ensure more mobile activity. I think relaxing the rules on mobile's and making more incentives to go mobile would help. Rover category took off in recent years and I think that took a hit on the amount of mobiles.
Maybe mobiles need a score formula where the rare counties and number of stations worked and number of counties activated all play a part in the score.
I am not a mobile op so this is just my 1/2 cents. I am just following the old advice of whats in it for me if I go to the trouble of activating a rare county or have a game plan of lighting up several counties. I know for the past 15 year no one would have a sweep with out at least one mobile.

I concur with Dave, WN4AFP, that there were a lot of out of state stations
calling CQ for PA contacts. I was one of the callers. With this being a
two day contest, you just run out of PA stations to work and need to
attract the casual PA ops that only do S&P. There was also a shortage of
PA mobiles to work. I think PA should be a one day contest. It would be
easier for the mobile stations so more mobile stations would come out.
More mobiles to chase means out of station stations don't have to call CQ
as much as new counties and contacts are always becoming available. I'd be
interested in hearing what others think about making PA a one day contest.
