Sorry to bring this up again, but I've learned some more since my email at
the end of last week. As I was (to put it mildly) scolded for allegedly
passing on less-than-accurate information, I felt it necessary to send this
update. Hopefully this will be the last time.
Again, if you are not an ARRL member, this doesn't apply to you, so my
apologies for the bandwith.
However, if you ARE an ARRL member in a section or division undergoing an
election.
.
When I heard about the problem last week, I was left with the impression
that it was confined to WPA. I've since learned that other ARRL sections
have or are having the same problem.
The cause is the beginning of the implementation of online or electronic
balloting for ARRL elections. The issue is that someone at the ARRL decided
to notify all members, by email, that not only was electronic voting being
phased in, to eventually totally replace paper ballots. but that members
would be switched to e-votes by default.
Well, not everyone has an email address, and not everyone has informed the
ARRL of their email, and even those who did haven't always kept their
current email address up to date. Further, not everyone reads their emails.
So: If you are an ARRL member in a Section or Division (or both) that is
currently or is about to have an election, and have not received in the mail
your paper ballot(s) .
Log in to the ARRL web site, at http://www.arrl.org <http://www.arrl.org/>
, and go to the election page at http://www.arrl.org/election. Everything
else you need should be available there.
If this does NOT work, call the ARRL, toll free, at 860-594-0200 or
888-277-5289
Although you can ask for paper ballots to be mailed, they may not get to you
in time.
One last comment:
This came up today because I received an email from one of the candidates.
I would rather not publicly state whom. The impression I got from the email
is that this individual appeared to be more upset that I'd relayed
information from another candidate, than over members not being able to
vote. Thus this update; if the candidate remains unhappy with this
information, he is more than welcome to post his own correction, I am done.
Suffice to say, I now know which of the candidates that I will definitely
NOT be voting for.
