[PaQSO] Counties and N1MM's ADIF file

Many of you will remember I wrote and distributed a program that would convert KA3JWE's PQP log file into an ADIF file so you could easily import it into your favorite general logging program.

With the advent of N1MM's popularity in PQP and my personal switch to it for PQP (the last contest I did not use N1MM for) I revisited the ADIF needs. The only issue that I noticed is that N1MM simply puts the received county abbreviation in a field. It knows the abbreviations (BUX, MGY,...) but not what they mean in ADIF county information terms (PA,Bucks, PA, Montgomery,...).

So I wrote a new version of the translation program that will take the county abbreviation in N1MM's ADIF output and add a field with the proper ADIF county information. I have one more feature I want to add and a couple of additional tests I want to run before distributing the program. The overall program is a lot simpler as compared to my original as N1MM is creating the rest of the ADIF details. This program is written in Java so you will need a copy of the Java Runtime Environment installed. This also means that the conversion program should run on any platform that supports Java.

The additional feature is stripping a '/county' from a callsign (not just this years W3TDF but any future multi-county operations) so general logging programs will not assume the station is portable DX. I need to look into one or two more things before doing this.

So if you haven't imported you N1MM ADIF just yet, and you can drag your feet for a few more days, you will be able to get full county information along with your import.

Take care,
Mark
