won't be able to post the logs until I get back to NC
next week after operating the NYQP from YAT. We
will be using the call W2M.
Using the call W3NO, Doug and I operated mobile
from 19 WPA counties and made in excess of 1,100
contacts. We operated mostly CW but did make
about 150 SSB Q's to help the multipler count. As it
was, I think we missed about 40 mults. We were
running a KW to roof mounted Hamsticks.
I think we made about 5 S&P Q's and all the rest were
calling CQ. I was disappointed in how much CQing we
had to do. I didn't think we would have to do much at
all but we had to as the piles would come in spurts.
Our best customer was NO3M with 20 Q's followed
by AA3B with 18. We worked LY5A 13 times. He
usually had a good signal. We had a number of people
ask us on 75 SSB how we managed to be so loud as
a mobile. So the KW really made a difference,
especially on that band. The "Power Plant" was a
generator mounted on a trailer hitch platform. The
SB-220 amplifier was in the back seat.
An interesting thing was the corona coming off the tip
of the hamstick at night on 75. I could stand outside
the car and hear Doug calling CQ coming out of the
fire on the end of the antenna! Yes, the Hamsticks
got very warm, sometimes too hot to touch, but they
did manage to hang in there.
